FA51 - Civil War Cartridge Box

This excellent box is manufacturer id'd to C[hristian] S[chaeffer] Storms of New York and is so stamped on both outside sides. The box measures 7.2 x 1.6 x 5.8 with belt loops attached with stitching and rivets and the latch tab attached only with straight lined stitching, marking this as a Pattern 1861 box for the .58 caliber elongated cartridge. Storms had government contracts for infantry accouterments from 1862 - 1865. In 1865 they also had a contract with the USMC. This is a very fine box with extremely nice interior leather flaps and sides, but a little bit of scuffing across the outside top. Tins, buckles and loops are complete and in good shape, and the plate has an even, dull brass finish.
