July 29, 1865. The front page is a rather troubling sketch captioned, “The Great Labor Question from a Southern Point of View” - a white family is comfortably seated on their veranda while a black worker is leaving with his tools. The family alleges they have kept him and cared for him long enough, now it is time for him to go to work.   Inside half-page sketches show the presentation of 200 battle flags to Governor Fenton at Albany, NY; the grand dinner for the Army of the Tennessee; scenes at and around Saratoga Lake; the ruins of Barnum’s American museum, the launching of the US ship Madawaska; Edmund Ruffin, Miss Mary Harris and fashions of the day. One full-page sketch shows the destruction by fire of Barnum’s American Museum – great detail. The paper needs trimming, some repair and there is some discoloration.
