June 1, 1861. Front page is a ¾ seated sketch of Major General Benjamin F. Butler. Inside full page sketch of the Confederate States’ cabinet at Montgomery. Half-page sketches depict: a juvenile party; Fort Pulaski, on the Savannah River; Major Smith and Mr. Ward inspecting a 10" columbiad at Fort Pulaski; sand bag battery commanding the road to Harper’s Ferry’ Bouquet Battery commanding the Bridge at the Relay House; the sleeping bunks fo the 1st Rhode Island Regiment; quarters of the 69th (Irish) regiment of the NY State militia; the armory at Albany, NY; drumming out Albany volunteers who refused to take the oath; US volunteers attacked by a mob in St. Louis. The double-page sketch shows the military occupation of Baltimore, Butler’s encampment at Federal Hill in Montgomery, AL and the White House at Montgomery and drumming up recruits for the Confederate Army. Stories accompany all illustrations. The paper is 16 pages (complete) with great ads and four political cartoons. One small tear upper right corner.
