August 13, 1864. Front page sketch is of General Hooker riding along his lines and portraits of Major-Generals James McPherson and Oliver Howard. Inside drawings include: Sherman?s advance - 4 sketches - Howard?s 14th Corps crossing the Chattahoochee, Turner?s Mill, fish traps in the Chatahoochee and a view of the military college near Marietta, Ga; Colonel Brownlow on a picket hunt; Brigadier-Generals Charles Harker and A. S. Williams; 4 sketches of the Army of the Potomac - inspection of the 2nd PA, General Stannard?s headquarters, General Hancock and his staff and General Warren and his staff. The double page sketch depicts the Grant campaign with a view of Petersburg from Captain Davis?s battery, the 1st Connecticut Artillery (a Waud sketch). The paper is complete (16 pages) with stories accompanying all illustrations. Period advertisements including one for the Remington revolver and one for the National revolver. There is one political cartoon. The paper is in overall very good condition with some foxing at the left fold.
