F185 - Farrier's Multi-Purpose Tool

237.50
This clever device resembles a pocket knife and is just about the same size ( 3_" in overall length when closed). It would certainly have been a much more convenient tool for the cavalry troop to carry with him than a pouch full of individual tools. It is complete with three blades, a long hook (pick) for removing stones from the hoof, a punch or probe, a cork screw -- nine different tools in all. The handle is made of bone and has one chip on the side where the probe is stored. It is not unusual to find individual tools for maintaining the health of the horse's hooves, but we don't encounter these multi-purpose tools too often. This one has been in the Coleman collection since 1982.
