FD29 - C.W. Recovered M1851 Sword Belt Plate

297.50
A cast brass plate with shortened wreath and 2.2" width adopted in November 1861. It features the integral eagle motif & the circle of rays according to the pattern introduced in December 1863, identical to plate 664 in O'Donnell & Campbell. This one was recovered in the Wilderness 17 September 1964 (& so noted on the back by the digger). It has Benchmark 778 on the back & must be described as in fine, recovered condition; the face retains a nice chocolate patina, all detail is still quite good, but the applied silver wreath is long gone.
