This document provides for a 30-day furlough for Private Ephraim Mitz to go to Northumberland County under General Orders 376 of 1863. At the end of said furlough he will rejoin his regiment at Camp Curtin PA. It is signed by Captain Alvonell and approved by order of Lt. Col. J. Bomford 16th Inf Supt Vol. overwritten in red ink indicating that transportation is furnished round trip (182 miles). The document's condition is very good with no frays or tears, just the expected folds where Mitz kept it secure in a wallet or pocket. Furlough documents are quite scarce.
