B1014 - Muster-Out Roll

177.50
This was the official muster-out paper work for H. Boyd McKeen,Col of the 81st Penna Vols, the regiment commanded by Col Miller. McKeen enlisted at the age of 28 on 29 October 1861 at Easton, PA for a period of three years and was mustered in by Lt. Elwood. He was mustered out for promotion near Falmouth on 5 June 1863. The muster is signed by W. P. Nelson, 1st Lieut of F Co 148th PA. The document is large (31" x 10_) and in good condition, but I have reinforced it at a couple of the folds with invisible archival tape. There is a great deal of history in this document. First, the document is signed by William Potter Wilson, 148th PA who worked his way from Lieutenant to Lieut- Col and Captain and Aide-de-camp and by Captain Edward P. Brownson, captain and aide-de-camp on Hancock's staff. He was killed at Ream's Station, VA. Boyd himself commissioned as a 1st Lieut 27 October 1861. He was promoted to Colonel in 1862, wounded at Chancellorsville in May 1863 and killed 3 June 1864 at Cold Harbor. A most interesting document with a lot of history.
