The items listed in this document were received of Lieut G. B. Bartlett, AAQM on Engineering duty by D. F. Tiedemann, Captain and Chief Engineer at Corinth Mississippi 1 April 1863. Items listed include 83 axes and handles, 250 spades, 26 shovels, 11 trimming spades, the tools of the Pioneer Corps. When the need for a more carefully organized unit to travel ahead of the Union army clearing roads, digging trenches and erecting fortifications, General Rosecrans ordered 2 men detached from each infantry company in his army. The 3,000 men became the Pioneer Corps of the Army of the Cumberland. Their services proved invaluable to the Union Army. The document is signed by Tiedemann, measures 7_� x 12 _" and is in excellent condition.
