B1191 - Claim Of Exemption

87.50
This most interesting, handwritten document was prepared by Justice of the Peace C. H. Bowmen (?) For Delos Hasbrook of the town of Maine in Broome County, New York claiming exemption from military service because his lungs are not sound...[and] that he is lame in the left knee so much so that it troubles him to walk with any degree of ease. The statement is dated 10 August 1864 and signed by both Hasbrook and the Justice. On the reverse is a notation that the exemption was officially filed that same day by the Town Clerk. Affixed to the front is a 5 proprietary stamp. This is an excellent document with scarce content.
