B9920 Certificate at Discharge

87.50

This document is the standard statement issued at the time of discharge allowing for the final pay to be issued to a soldier. It was prepared for Sergeant Charles O. Gleason who was discharged at Bear Creek, MS, a member of "E" Co of th 58th Indiana (known as Sherman's Bridge Builders.) Gleason was 31 years old at the time of his discharge. He was born in Wayne County, PA, stood 5' 10" tall and had a light complexion, blue eyes and auburn hair. By occupation he was a farmer. He was discharged by reason of a disability. The document is signed by Daniel J. Banta, Capt. Cmdg of the Regiment, and it is in excellent condition. Gleason had a short tenure in a very colorful regiment. Banta enlisted in October 1861 as a Captain and resigned his commission in May 1862. I have both soldier histories as well as the regimental history to include with this certificate.
