A .58 caliber "US" box with box plate this is the Pattern of March 1864. It measures 7.2" x 1.7" x 5.2". The leather on the interior and exterior is particularly supple. The tins are original to the box and the ears and latch tab are totally complete. The only defect to note is that the bottom buckles are detached, but one of them is inside the box. In terms of condition, this is one of the nicest pieces of leather I have acquired in some time. It will be a great addition to a soldier's accouterment display
