C157 - Application For The Souther Cross of Honor

This pre-printed form was completed in black ink on blue paper and executed at Warrenton, VA in August 1913. It is the application of Robert Hicks who enlisted in the 23rd North Carolina in 1862 as a surgeon. It allows that he served through the war until the 9th of May 1865. He was among those paroled at Appomattox Court House 9 April 1865. The document is witnessed by Hugh Hamilton and Joseph Jeffries, members of Camp 91 United Confederate Veterans and Tom Smith, Commander of Camp 91, and approved by A. F. Rose, Adjutant. The document is in extremely fine condition.
